The must have apps

The official apps

Regardless the ski resort you are going to for your winter holidays, its mobile app (if it exists) is unavoidable. For the majority available on Android and iOS, the new official apps let you have access to weather forecast, map of the slopes, opening times of the slopes and lifts in real time, discovering current and coming events and other information.

Weather apps

The app Ski & Neige informs you on real time mountain weather, snowfall on the slopes (thanks to live webcams), snow cannons, number of open slopes, temperatures, etc. It is available on Android and iOS and has information on more than 2000 ski resorts in France and overseas.

Offering similar functions is the app Ski 360 which is a good alternative. You can also find promotions and flash sales on ski hire, accommodation or ski passes during the whole season. Finally the app Ski Webcams allows you to follow the state of slopes thanks to its repertoire of 2400 webcams in hundreds of ski resorts around the world.

Apps to measure your performance

If you want to measure your performance, the app Trace Snow (Alpinereplay) is one of the best apps, whatever your level. Speed, altitude, distance travelled, calories burned, time spent in the air during jumps… thanks to a sensor placed on your board, this app calculates everything so that you can evaluate your sport performances and eventually compare them with those of your friends.

of course, there are other apps like this: Ski+, Ski Pursuit and Ski Tracks.

Apps for security

Developed in collaboration with PGHM (Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne), the app iSis detects automatically a fall in a cliff or an avalanche and it sends an alert to the emergency services that can then easily search for the victim thanks to the emission of a signal by the smartphone via the app. Important notice: this app is not available for iOS.

Other safety systems of this type are being developed in certain ski resorts. This is the case at Val d’Allos, the first resort equipped with a device to send a located SOS via the app Mountain Sécu.

Even if these apps can represent help in case of an accident in the high mountain and outside the slopes, they do not replace essential equipment that you should always carry with you: avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe.

Other useful apps

Warm up before going on the slopes

We often forget but like other sports, skiing and other winter sports require preparation and a warming-up of the body. For this the app Slope Track gives you advice to warm yourself up effectively before leaving for the slopes and to stretch after a long journey on skis to prevent aches.

The mountain in augmented reality

The apps use the latest technological advances that can be found to be used on the mountains. Thus the app REALSKI, only available on iOS, can display useful indications such as the nearest tracks, restaurants or even toilets in augmented reality. Resting on the same technology is Peak.ar (available on Android and iOS) offers the names of the nearby mountains, and an exceptional panorama of the most beautiful slopes of France.
