1. Les Gets
The ski resort of Les Gets, of which the ski area is situated in Portes du Soleil is for those that want to explore skiing or want to improve their techniques. The resort has a dedicated and secured learning area for beginners: the Mappys area. This area consists of two treadmills, a snow wire, a tele corder and 4 soft tracks to learn in peace. The area is 100% free and accessible for pedestrians to give families and friends motivation and encouragement. Many lessons are fit for both children as adults. There are also other activities in the resort: skiing, hiking, off-piste skiing, and hiking.
2. Alpe d’Huez
Learn skiing on the Domaine d’Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski! With the resort’s ski schools at the foot of the slopes, the youngest ones can discover skiing in one of them. Treadmills, inviting figures … everything is done to give them self-confidence and to allow them to make their first slides easily and in in good company. This is not everything because you will find other spaces for beginners in the ski area. There is a snow park dedicated to beginners so both young and old can keep practicing to get autonomy and even start trying out different disciplines.
3. Gourette
In the Pyrenees, Gourette is the resort with the biggest area for beginners. In the heart of a ski area with beautiful views, both young and old profit from a playful learning zone: the Happy Place, where instructors offer activities to teach skiing easily and without stress. The basics of different disciplines are taught on slopes with soft hills: alpine skiing, hiking, handiski, freeride, freestyle or telemark. The little ones will get special attention in the Piou Piou clubs and daycares to get good reflexes and good gestures.
4. Méribel
In the heart of the ski area Les 3 Vallées, Méribel has equipment and schools dedicated to teaching ski or other disciplines like off-piste skiing, snowboarding or speedriding. Beginning skiers can enjoy secured slopes with a peace of mind in the “Zen Zones” strewn over the area. One of them is even equipped with an indoor treadmill, these areas offer quality slopes where beginners can gain experience before going intense gliding for hours on the rest of the field.
5. Piau Engaly
The winter sport area of Piau Engaly, situated in the Pyrenees, enjoys extraordinary snow conditions and was even proclaimed “most snow-sure ski area in the world” in 2015. It is situated on a snowy layer of absolute comfort where fans can make their first descents safely. The resort has various ski schools and a beginner’s area where the trip is being made easy due to two ski lifts and a chair lift. Besides this beginner zone there is also a snow park with modules adjusted for beginners.
6. Chamrousse
Chamrousse offers spaces and equipment so you can learn various kinds of ski which is ideal for beginning skiers to help them get better quicker. Besides wide green and blue slopes there is a mini-ski part in the neighborhood of the resort to start skiing safely. Look out for the ski area, the presence of a nice snow park accessible to all levels, and three Piou Piou clubs so the youngest ones can discover activities.
7. Avoriaz
Avoriaz can help every beginner progress so they can make the best of skiing with a lot of fun thanks to its ski schools, the space dedicated to adults “Youcanski”, and 30 km of green and blue slopes. It is situated in Portes du Soleil and lets children and adults learn various forms in the ski school: alpine, freestyle, snowboard, adaptive skiing, telemark skiing, biathlon, and many others.
8. Luz Ardiden
Luz Ardiden is situated in the Pyrenees between 1680 and 2500 m altitude and emphasizes teaching how to ski and other forms of winter sport thanks to its special sections and ski schools offering different disciplines. This way skiers of all levels and ages can enjoy their first lesson alpine skiing, hiking, off-piste skiing, snowboarding, adaptive skiing, or telemark. The ski area also has a snow park for all levels and a freestyle area with mini-cross.
9. Risoul
Risoul is situated in the ski area of La Forêt Blanche and its heights are accessible and fit for all ski levels. And of course there is a space present for beginners with special equipment to discover the first slides. There are also Piou Piou clubs and ski schools available to discover the basics of multiple disciplines: alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, freeride, telemark… Everything is designed to let everyone flourish on the slopes.
10. Les Houches
Les Houches has a maximum altitude of 1900 m and many easy slopes and is a ski area specially fit for beginners to learn how to ski. Novices will enjoy the special areas equipped with easily accessible lifts. The resort’s ski schools welcomes students of various disciplines: alpine skiing, snowboarding, ski tours, speedriding, handiski, telemark skiing.
