Tignes won’t disappoint you, its snow coverage is so impressive that the season lasts for most of the year. Val Claret’s close proximity to the glacier makes it the only village with direct access to summer and winter skiing. In fact Val Claret resort is perfectly placed for skiers with its easy links to Espace Killy, the Grande Motte glacier and all the Tignes ski area. The varied terrain, and altitude of Tignes-Val d’Isère ski area with its 300km of slopes and 78 lifts, makes for an exciting skiing adventure for all skiing abilities. The resort is a good option anytime, in the summer, mountain biking becomes the popular sport with many breath taking routes to try after the snow has disappeared. There are many activities to take advantage of in the mountains during the summer.
Val Claret itself is the highest in Tignes at 2300m and divided into two levels linked by lifts. The lower level is from where you can take the Funicular all the way to the amazing Grande Motte Glacier or the chair lift to the Tignes mountainside. The upper level holds a different chairlift taking you towards Val d’Isere. It is also the bustling hub of the resort with plenty of restaurants, bars and shops to satisfy your eating, drinking and shopping desires. If you are planning on partying you will no doubt end up in either the Blue Girl or Melting pot, two of the most popular nightclubs in the whole of Tignes.
If you still are unfulfilled and feel the need to venture out of the resort you can easily explore the four other villages of Tignes of the resort via the well-connected bus route, each village is at a different altitude and with its own character, making a great day excursion or a fun evening outing for some wining and dining.
Tignes also hosts a wide range of events throughout the year. Many festive events are on during the Christmas period, the little ones can especially enjoy Christmas Fairy running on the December 9th and 10th 2017. Here the kids can experience the magical world of wolfs, elves, goblins, Father Christmas and his trusty reindeers! For the young and not so young, the New Year’s Eve pop-rock on the 31st December is an exciting way to see in 2018, dancing all night on the highest dancefloor in Europe. For those who not only like to participate in winter sport but also watch it too, there are many events including the Final of the Halfpipe World Cup (18th to 22th march) and Black Shoes, (April 28th – 29th 2018), a fun and quirky old school ski style competition.
