The cost is also dependent on the resort you choose. There are of course more exclusive resorts catering to the VIP lifestyle with prices to match. However the following resorts are suitable for those on a more modest budget, where you can enjoy yourself without over spending.
Les Menuires
By no means the prettiest resort in the Alps with its concrete buildings, an eyesore leftover from the 1960’s ski resort boom, it is however one of the cheapest. What the resort lacks in looks, it makes up in position, with close proximity to the Three Valleys with access to 600 km of pistes.
There are many good restaurant options serving hearty family meals. Additionally bars often start happy hour early once the lifts have closed, meaning there is plenty of chances to have a cheap drink after your skiing day.
(La Daille) Val d’Isère
A favourite among the Brits, Val d’Isère. However a stay here can become quite expensive, while only 2km down the road is the small hamlet La Daille. Here you will find accommodation at a low cost, which can keep your costs down considerably while still having the opportunity to enjoy the ski area and Val d’Isere when you wish.
Chatel
If you are searching for affordable accommodation in the Portes du Soleil ski area Chatel is a very good choice. This farming village offers affordable self-catering in the centre with quick access to shops, restaurants as well as the main lift. What’s more kids under the age of twelve get to ski for free during Christmas with paying adults.
Les Deux-Alpes
Les Deux Alpes boast spectacular views, excellent weather and snow conditions year round, it even has its own glacier that reaches heights up to 3400m. It is expected that high altitude equates high prices, however Les Deux-Alpes is one of the exceptions. Set apart from most high altitude resorts, this town offers a wide range of affordable self-catering. However the downside is that the resort is susceptible to crowds, be prepared to wait in line for the lifts.
