In case of an accident on the slopes, care for the injured is usually done by private companies and in some cases requires special means (transport by helicopter etc.). These ways of help are rarely covered in the normal insurances, that is why having a specific ski insurance to cover the risks related to skiing and other winter sports is strongly recommended.
In general, children are included in their parents’ insurance but it is good to verify all the same after making a reservation for a stay in the mountains to make sure that all the people going skiing are assured. You should also pay attention to what is included and excluded in the ski insurance (damages, what sports, off-piste, etc.) and the offered options.
On average, a rescue from the slope varies between €176 and €391. Off-piste the average is €732. Here are some cost examples that could occur when being rescued on the mountains:
– Rescue on the slopes in a distant zone: €391
– From the foot of the slopes to the hospital: €278
– From the slopes to a doctors’ practice: €181
– From a doctor’s practice to a hospital: €314
– Helicopter: €1389
If an accident happens off-piste and outside the ski domain, the intervention of the PGHM (Gendarmerie) or the CRS (Civil Security) is for free.
