In December you can get up to 7 1/2 hours a day of sun, this reaches up to 11 hours a day in April. Conversely there is also a reliable and long snow cover due to its glacier. With slopes descending to 1,100m and reaching up to 3,330m, skiers and snowboarders of all levels can find suitable slopes. All these factors make Alpe d’Huez a wonderful playground with many snow-filled adventures awaiting you and your ski buddies.
As a result of the sixties architectural concrete mountain boom, Alpe d’Huez is by no means the most picturesque of resorts, however it is undergoing renovations. What it doesn’t have in looks it makes up for in activities, facilities and après ski options. There is no doubt that Huez is an action resort with so many exciting activities to partake in, from hiking to horse riding to ice driving, this resort has it all.
During the winter season this resort is also known for hosting big events including the ice driving competition Andros Trophy (8 – 9 December 2017), the Alpe d’Huez Cup for talented children ages 9 to 16 (5 – 6 January 2018) and the Snow Kite Masters (2 – 8 February 2018).
After the excitement of the day, the resort continues at a high-energy pace well into the night. Known as somewhat of a party town with many drinking and dancing hot-spots, favorites include La Folie Douce, the Freeride Café and for some all-night dancing at L’Igloo nightclub! Those who prefer a more relaxed vibe after a busy day can equally and easily spend a cozy quiet night at one of the many cafes, restaurants or choose a more subdued bar for a quiet drink.
If you are looking for a non-stop action-packed holiday, look no further, Alpe d’Huez is the place for you!
