5 Non-Skiing Ski Holiday Activities

Snowshoeing

Snow shoes can be hired from most ski shops, and remember to grab some poles as well. The majority of resorts will also offer guides and marked trails, generally leading up to the best view on the mountain. Our favorite spot for snowshoeing? Try the traditional village of French Alps, just between the famous ski areas of Courchevel and La Plagne!

Sledging

Not the way you did it as a child, sitting on a tray and puttering down the local hill. Most of the resorts these days have dedicated sledging areas, with equipment available to all and some exhilarating runs. In the ski resort of La Bresse, in the Vosges mountains, now available on Alpinresorts.com, you can sledge the way traditional way on the slediging slopes, or dare trying the “Schilte Mountain” with sharp turns, tunnels, 340° half-pipes for a sensational sledging session!

Husky Sledging

Often marketed as the perfect treat for children, husky sledging is a pleasure for adults too. Speed, scenery, snow, and the company of some truly beautiful animals; everyone should take the opportunity if it comes up. Discover husky sledging this winter in Les Contamines Montjoie, and top by their amazing polar hounds park to cuddle fluffy little puppies before going on a ride with a bigger version… Not a dog person? Find a suitable alternative with Skijoering!

Snowmobiling

Many of the European resorts are car free, and most make a car unnecessary anyway, so there might come a time where the need for speed overcomes you. For these times, try snowmobiling. It’s similar to motorbiking, but also nothing like that at all. Powerful and fast, snowmobiling is doubtless one of the most fun and frivolous ways to see the mountains.

Ice Skating
A huge number of resorts offer ice skating at a very reasonable price, most of these are open air and many sit comfortably in the quaint and charming setting of a pretty village. It’s a good way to warm down after the workout of the slopes. In Tyrol, Austria, you can even practice ice skating on natural frozen lakes! So why not ski Kappl or Sölden this winter?
